The annual session of the CPPCC National Committee Friday voiced
firm support to the basic principle of "peaceful reunification of
the motherland and one country, two systems" and the eight-point
proposal for developing the relations on the two sides of the
Taiwan Straits and promoting peaceful reunification of the
motherland at the present stage.
A resolution adopted at the closing session Friday afternoon
says that the realization of complete reunification of the
motherland is the common aspirations of the sons and daughters of
the Chinese nation at home and abroad and conforms to the common
interests of the people of the whole of China, Taiwan compatriots
included, says the resolution.
The resolution resolutely opposes any form of separatist
activities for Taiwan independence. "We will never allow anybody to
separate Taiwan from China by any means," says the resolution.
The resolution says that "all CPPCC members sincerely hope that
compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits work hand in hand
and contribute to the great cause of reunification of the
motherland at the earliest possible date."
The resolution says that the practice of "one country, two
systems" in Hong Kong and Macao is an important component part of
building socialism with distinct Chinese characteristics and there
should be no waver in implementing the principles of "one country,
two systems" ,"Hong Kong must be governed by Hong Kong people" and
"Macao must be governed by Macao people".
The resolution calls for strict observation of the basic laws
for the two special administrative regions. "All CPPCC members from
Hong Kong and Macao should display their due roles, unite with all
personalities who love the country and love Hong Kong and Macao,
give full support to the chief executives and governments of the
two special administrative regions in administering their affairs
according to law and make concerted efforts to maintain and develop
stability and prosperity of Hong Kong and Macao."
