Experts and scholars attending a symposium in Bangkok, Thailand call for more economic cooperation between governments, enterprises and nongovernmental groups in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
They also stress the importance of environmental protection to ensure sustainable development.
In a keynote speech, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak says economic potential can be better realized if governments in the region can effectively coordinate their policies.
Attending the symposium are more than 1,200 scholars from Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and China, as well as the Asian Development Bank.
