Ang Lee shows off 3D 'Life of Pi' in Beijing
To capture the spirit of the film, Lee said 3D technology is the best way to present a story: "3D is new for me, but I saw it a new challenge, and I love taking on new adventures." "Avatar" director James Cameron's Cameron-Pace Group (CPG) was involved in the 3D production of the film, and provided the FUSION 3D system. The visual effects are so gorgeous that Time Magazine called the film "the next 'Avatar'" after its debut at the New York Film Festival, concluding the "magical realism was rarely so magical and never before so real" in "Life of Pi." But the film is not just about visual miracles. Ang Lee said his new film has so much dialectical thinking in it and talked about belief and supreme power in the universe, "Something like God, " Lee said, "the number Pi will make you feel it is an unsolved transcendental number, but you will still feel excited." "The most difficult part of this film is to create a co-existence of commercial and arts, which is not just about how to balance it. I would love to see audiences viewing this film as a mind game, and as a universal film with thoughts which can stir discussion within the family," Lee said. "I was the one to share the story and I feel fulfilled, I hope people will be enlightened by the ending, and I wish to convey more thoughts and emotions to all of you." |
