A Serbian artist has been exhibiting her moving oil paintings, which feature themes of leaves and human bodies.

"I love leaves very much," artist Mirjana Mit. Stojkovic told China.org.cn. "I love the connections between leaves and human. In my heart, it feels really nice and close to nature."

She duly has put up 30 paintings with these themes in Beijing for display -- the collection is entitled "Ode to Nature." She revealed that it takes her 15 to 30 days to finish single painting, depending on its size.

Stojkovic has been to China more than 20 times and is the only Serbian artist to have held 3 solo arts exhibitions in the country. She has also worked in China, sometimes drawing inspiration from Chinese arts and artists. She also has two other exhibitions currently ongoing in Shanghai and Linyi, Shandong Province.

"I'm so proud to do exhibitions here in China, as I know there are many great Chinese artists in this country," Stojkovic said. "Because I've lived and worked in China for a long while, I sometimes feel like I'm Chinese too."

The Chinese public, with their sensibility to nature and their respect for traditional painting skills, have shown great affinity for Stojkovic's works in her two previous exhibitions in this country.

Mirjana Mit. Stojkovic graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Decorative Painting, Belgrade, Serbia in 1968. She has been a member of both the ULUS (Association of Fine Artists of Serbia) and the International Association of Fine Arts, since 1976 and 2005 respectively.

Her works have been collected around world by museums, celebrities and royal families. She was the first prize winner for painting in Serbia in 1974, 1977, and 1983. Stojkovic has had more than 50 solo exhibitions since 1973, in many different countries including China, Serbia, Canada, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia, and has also taken part in more than 140 group exhibitions all over the world.

Dr. Rasko Radovic, member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a PhD of Philosophy with Pantheon-Sorbonne University, described Stojkovic's work as follows: "In some of her paintings, organic forms of leaves are deconstructed, almost dematerialized, reduced to a mere play of shades and nuances of colors, thus approaching abstraction. What is fascinating in these more abstract works is how the undulations of transparent volumes are conjured from subtle variations of the color hue."

Mirjana Mit. Stojkovic's "Ode to Nature" is curated by Susan Wang and Jane Huang and sponsored by Artall, Onyx Gallery, Fragual Sas and ifeng.com, with support from Embassy of the Republic of Serbia and Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria. The exhibition will be held from May 14 – 25, and the address is: NO.218-219 Room, Building 29, Upper East Side (Andersen Garden), No.6 East 4th Ring Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China.
