Editor's note: Behind almost every traditional Chinese festival, there are folklores and fairy tales, and the Mid-Autumn Festival is no exception. The festival involves a moving love story between a hero and a fairy maiden, which embodies the Chinese people's longing for true love and happiness. The festival falls on Sept. 24 this year, and China.org.cn presents you here with a 10-picture story about the festival's traditions.

In ancient times, there were ten suns glowing in the sky and all crops were scorched. People almost starved to death or died due to the intense heat.
