Bona Film Group announced on Wednesday it will release three heavyweight blockbusters to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China falling on October 1.

The announcement was made at a press conference during the ongoing 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival.

The three films are "The Bravest," "Chairman Mao 1949" and "The Chinese Pilot," forming "China's Pride Trilogy."

"The Bravest," directed by Andrew Lau and starring Huang Xiaoming and Du Jiang, reveals the real life and daily work of Chinese firefighters. This film will hit Chinese theaters on August 1, China's Army Day.

Wang Pengxiang, director of the China Fire Protection Association, said "The Bravest" is the first film to focus on the actuality of firefighting in the country and the first to present an unprecedented fire rescue on the big screen.

"Chairman Mao 1949," directed by Ning Haiqiang, attracted an all-starcast including Tang Guoqiang and Zhang Hanyu as well as a top production team to ensure its success. It will reenact the story 70 years ago of how Chairman Mao and his colleagues moved to Beijing for the decisive final victory to found the People's Republic of China. The film will be released on Sept. 12.

Producer Huang Jianxin said: "The charm of the great man, the history and the film are driving us to complete this creative task. The founders of the People's Republic of China in the movie will show their abundant emotions, and the film will also show the dedication and sacrifice of ordinary soldiers. The two parts constitute a spiritual world, the root of our China and the pride of China."

"The Chinese Pilot," also directed by Andrew Lau and starring Zhang Hanyu, is a cinematic portrayal of one of the most miraculous emergency landings in contemporary Chinese aviation history, based on the true event occurring on May 14, 2018. On that day, after the windshield of a Sichuan Airlines plane shattered at 32,000 feet above the Tibetan Plateau, the plane lost much of its automated controls and the cabin depressurized; however, the pilot managed to regain control of the plane before bringing it and its 119 passengers safely home.

Dong Zhiyi, deputy administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China who attended the press conference, said the film was a very meaningful cinematic work and gift from Chinese filmmakers and the people of the civil aviation sector to the 70th anniversary of the nation.

"The Civil Aviation Administration of China attaches great importance to the production of this film and thousands of working staff directly and indirectly participated in the production work," Dong said.

Meanwhile, director Lau said it was really tough to shoot the film but it was "a good thing" to have such pressure. "The Chinese Pilot" will open in Chinese theaters on Sept. 30, eve of National Day.
