Hundreds of Chinese books were on display at the 2019 Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) which kicked off at SMX convention center in the Philippines' capital on Wednesday, giving local readers a new window to understand China.
Organized by China's state press and publication administration, three Chinese publishing companies featured in the Chinese books showcase with a focus on China's development, Chinese culture and Chinese-learning books for visitors, comprising more than 300 kinds of books from six categories.
Shen Shuiping, the vice president of China Educational Publications Import & Export Corporation Ltd. and head of the Chinese publishing exhibition delegation, told Xinhua that Filipino bookworms are now becoming more and more interested in Chinese books, particularly Chinese-learning books which could help them understand China better.
"Chinese exhibitors are also willing to meet local publishing houses and companies to negotiate for copyright exchange and cooperation," He added.
At the book launch, multiple Philippine publishers came to Chinese books showcase, reading Chinese books and inquiring about further cooperation on the realm of culture and publication industry as well as trade in books.
During the MIBF, the teachers and students from Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University are also invited to showcase Chinese traditional skills like calligraphy, instrument playing, Chinese knot making, among others.
Founded in 1980, the annual MIBF is the biggest and longest-running book fair in the Philippines. The five-day fair this year, from Wednesday to Sunday, is anticipated to attract more than 120 exhibitors and 150,000 visitors across the world.
