The digital version of a photo exhibition showcasing the elegant finger gestures of the Mei School, a leading performing style developed by Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang, is now online.
Organized by the Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum, the exhibition titled "Mei Lanfang's Fingers Art," initially displayed at the museum in 2019, is now available on its official website and WeChat account.
Mei, renowned for his female characters on the stage, had summarized 53 kinds of finger gestures of female roles and gave them names with Chinese poetic beauty.
The exhibition brings together photos taken in the 1930s while Mei was doing these gestures and the newly taken ones, with explanations added to help Peking Opera lovers better understand the art.
The museum has put a series of programs online since February due to the novel coronavirus epidemic, which had won positive feedback from scholars, experts and Chinese opera lovers.
