A national art exhibition celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is scheduled to take place next year in Wuhan, the capital city of Central China's Hubei province, according to the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.

Under the theme of "Century of Glory, Memories of Wuhan," the exhibition will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the CPC, display the achievements by Chinese people of all ethnic groups, and eulogize the heroic victory in the battle against COVID-19 in Wuhan, said Fan Di'an, chairman of the China Artists Association and president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

The first evaluation of the entries will be conducted in Beijing in early May 2021, with the reevaluation in Wuhan later that month. Finally, 200 works (100 Chinese paintings and 100 oil paintings) will be selected.

Among the 200, 40 will have the opportunity to be collected by Wuhan Art Museum.

When asked about the connotations of the exhibition theme, Fan offered his explanation. 

"Century of Glory" indicates the century-long journey in which the Chinese nation has stood up, grown better off and become strong under the leadership of the Party. Meanwhile, "Memories of Wuhan" suggests that artists can create works themed on the heroic city of Wuhan, and it is hoped the event will give people unforgettable memories.

Covering a floor area of more than 12,000 square meters, Wuhan Art Museum boasts seven exhibition halls totaling 4,200 square meters. All seven halls will be used to present the selected paintings during the exhibition.
