Organizers announced in Beijing on Friday that the 2021 Shanghai International Film & TV Festival will be held June 6 to 20 and unveiled information about ticketing as well as the TV award jury.

The announcement was made at a press conference for the 27th Shanghai TV Festival (STVF), hosted by National Radio and Television Administration, China Media Group, and Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Meanwhile, the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), guided by China Film Administration and hosted by China Media Group and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, is scheduled to run from June 11 to 20.

The 27th STVF jury

A total of nearly 900 works from 40 countries and regions have applied to vie for the Magnolia Awards of STVF. The organizing committee announced the full jury panel, with director Liu Jin as jury president, who is tasked with selecting the best Chinese and foreign TV dramas to compete at the festival. Other juries, with Japanese documentary producer Ken-ichi Imamura and Singaporean animation producer Li Jincai as presidents, will decide winners for among the documentary and animation categories.

This year's Magnolia Awards International TV Showcase, in collaboration with the SMG TV Channel, will broadcast 80 episodes from over 20 excellent TV works from all over the world.

The 24th SIFF highlights

Ticket sales for SIFF will kick off on June 5, organizers said, with 40 cinemas around the city specially selected to screen films at the festival. In accordance with the Belt and Road Initiative, this year's Belt and Road Film Week will showcase a series of films recommended by the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance. SIFF will also further promote the cooperation between film and television institutions in the Yangtze River Delta to work towards coordinated cultural development.

This year's SIFF highlights will include the SIFFORUM, hosting the "Opening Session: Chinese Film Industry Summit" to discuss the high-quality development of China's film industry, as well as the "Glorious 2021"-themed "China Movie & TV Night" held in CMG Shanghai International Media Port and which will recommend new films and TV dramas.

At present, Shanghai is accelerating its building of a global film and television production center. SIFF is expected to help drive the innovative and quality development of the city's film industry. To discover, introduce, and cultivate a group of young film talents, the "SIFF YOUNG X Shanghai Young Filmmakers Support Programme" will serve to discover a group of outstanding young filmmakers, introduce them to influential overseas international film festivals, and provide them with global film resources.

The SIFF Market and the TV Market will adopt the OMO mode – a virtual market that expands the space for display, negotiation, and transaction for the physical market and realizes the "dual mechanism of a virtual and physical platform" by providing virtual value-added services, organizers introduced.

Last year, SIFF, amid the gloom of the COVID-19 pandemic, gave full play to the driving force of innovation and improved safety measures, offering a benchmarking "Shanghai Solution" for the holding of film festivals across the world. This year, SIFF will continue to strictly implement the relevant regulations of the country and the city of Shanghai for pandemic prevention and control to ensure a safe and orderly festival, added organizers.
