4. "Only Fools Rush In"
In "Only Fools Rush In," writer-turned-car-racer-turned-film-director Han Han continues his use of film as a means to tell his wandering youth story and capture his passion for speed. After his successful road film "The Continent" (2014) and race-car films "Duckweed" (2017) and "Pegasus" (2019), he turns his eye to motorcycle racing. The new film tells the story of a young motorcycle enthusiast (played by young star Liu Haoran) who embarks on a road trip to Guangzhou upon the unwelome return of his father (played by comedy megastar Shen Teng), whom he has not seen for many years. He is accompanied on his soul-searching trip by a waitress friend (played by emerging star Liu Haocun) and her drama-prone but earnest brother. The film integrates comedy, young romance, motorcycle racing and stunts, and catchy dialogue, as is true to Han's unique personal style. In addition, Han has said that as the world opts more for electric vehicles to protect the environment, he feels it is urgent and necessary to document the real sounds and images of vehicles with internal combustion engines.
