3. Spring outing
In ancient times, spring outing was called "tan chun" (exploring spring) or "xun chun" (hunting for spring). It usually refers to going for a walk in the countryside in early spring. It is a seasonal folk activity with a long history in China, which stems from the primitive farming custom of greeting spring – a practice that had a far-reaching influence on later generations. Around Qingming Festival, spring returns to the earth, and nature wakes and presents a vibrant scene. It is a good time to travel to the suburbs. Therefore, people often visit ancestral tombs to take a nice excursion in the mountains and fields with family members.
