5. Sowing seeds and praying for a child
According to the traditional Han custom, a layer of soil is laid on a small wooden plank a few days before Qixi Festival. Millet seeds are then sown in the soil. When green shoots sprout, small model huts, flowers and trees will be added to make it look like a small village with farmhouses. Sometimes, mung beans, adzuki beans or wheat will be soaked in a porcelain bowl. When the buds grow a few inches in height, they will be tied into a bundle with red and blue silk thread. These customs reflect ancient people's hopes to have a baby soon.
