Legoland Discovery Center Beijing debuted the 4D movie "Lego Mythica: Journey to Mythica" in late July offering children a thrilling and immersive experience this summer, while Merlin Entertainments Group will soon expand its presence in China with three Legoland theme parks currently under construction.

"Journey to Mythica" follows the adventures of an alicorn named Bobs who travels through mysterious forests, splendid glaciers and deep caves, as he attempts to escape the Winged Angry Terror with help from Maximus the Sky Lion and many other magical creatures. Some of these characters started out as Lego toys, but were later transformed into animal forms in another thrilling and colorful universe.

Wang Rui, general manager of the Beijing branch of Merlin Entertainments, said that all the magical characters that Bobs comes across during his journey represent different parenting styles, adding that she hopes the movie can inspire parents to think about how to cultivate their children's imagination through love and care.

Besides Beijing, the short film, produced by Merlin Entertainments for its global Legoland discovery centers, will also join the lineups of 4D movies being screened in the Shenyang and Shanghai venues.

Legoland Discovery Center Beijing opened in 2019 as a popular family attraction located in Longfor Shopping Center in the city's Chaoyang district, and includes a 4D cinema, Lego Miniland models, recreational facilities and a host of other offerings.

But Merlin Entertainments has bigger plans for the Chinese market regarding the Legoland franchise, with resorts currently being built in the three cities of Meishan, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Legoland Sichuan Resort, with $815 million investment and covering 570,000 square meters, began construction in 2020, and is scheduled to open in 2023 in Meishan, a city neighboring Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province. Legoland Shanghai Resort, with an investment totaling $550 million and covering 318,000 square meters, started construction in 2021 and is expected to open in 2024. Finally, Legoland Shenzhen Resort, which will be the world's biggest Legoland with a budget of $1.08 billion and covering 580,000 square meters, also started construction in 2021 and is set to open by 2024.

In addition, plans to build a Legoland Beijing Resort are also at the negotiation stage.

Each park will include themed areas covering most of the signature and popular attractions and rides of Legoland parks around the world, as well as various Chinese elements and local features.
