3. Eating mooncakes

Mooncakes, also known as palace cakes, harvest cakes and reunion cakes, were offered as sacrifices to the Moon Goddess on the Mid-Autumn Festival in ancient times, gradually becoming festival delicacies. As a symbol of family reunion, mooncakes are an established tradition for the Mid-Autumn Festival across the country. On this day, everyone eats mooncakes as an expression of reunion.

Integrated with the local eating habits, mooncakes vary in taste from place to place, including Cantonese style, Jin style, Beijing style, Suzhou style, Chao style and Yunnan style, which are deeply loved by local people. Popular fillings include walnut kernels, almonds, sesame kernels, melon seeds, hawthorn, lotus seed paste, red bean paste and jujube paste, which are good for one's health.
