6. Releasing sky lanterns
Sky lanterns, also known as Kongming lanterns, wishing lanterns and praying lanterns, are an ancient Han traditional handicraft made of paper in various shapes. After the candle is lit, the heat rises and the sky lantern floats up into the sky.
In ancient times, the lanterns were mostly used for military purposes, but people nowadays release them to pray for good luck. People write their wishes on notes and attach them to the lanterns, symbolizing success and happiness. Children also carry different kinds of lanterns and play under the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
