China's massive open online courses (MOOC) have attracted 979 million learners as of November 2022, said the Ministry of Education (MOE).
The MOOC platform provides more than 61,900 online courses, with 402 million registered users.
The educational platform was launched in 2012. In the past 10 years, especially since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has practiced online education on an unprecedented scale, relying on MOOC and other online education resources, which are profoundly changing teaching, learning, and school management, said Wu Yan, director of the Department of Higher Education at the MOE.
China has organized over 10 global online education dialogues since the establishment of the Global MOOC and Online Education Union in 2020, Wu added.
A total of 168 global hybrid classrooms have been opened and 13 world-famous universities from 11 countries have achieved mutual recognition of credits. In addition, eight global open English classes have been launched, attracting 7.3 million learners around the world.
Meanwhile, China has promoted a MOOC plan in west China. Currently, 725 universities in west China have provided online and hybrid courses using MOOC, accounting for 97.3 percent of the universities in west China, which has greatly improved talent training in the region.
