The Huguang Guild Hall, one of the most renowned Peking Opera theaters in Beijing, reopened on Friday after nearly two years of closure due to renovation work.
Built in 1807, the Huguang Guild Hall has staged performances by many famous opera artists, including Mei Lanfang and Tan Xinpei.
Today, opera fans can follow the actors to visit different parts of the guild hall in a new immersive opera performance to learn about the history of the theater, and to discover stories from behind the stage.
Two exhibitions at the museum in the Huguang Guild Hall feature archives that chart the development of Peking Opera and of the guild hall itself. Visitors can examine historical documents, opera costumes and stage props, and also listen to "live shows" performed by famous opera artists recreated using digital technology.
The guild hall also offers spaces for opera research and opera-themed catering, providing visitors with an all-round Chinese opera art experience.
