Chinese comedy "The Last Frenzy" stayed atop the box office chart on the Chinese mainland on Saturday, data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.
The film, which explores life's choices in the face of death, raked in 17.56 million yuan (about 2.47 million U.S. dollars) on the day, bringing its total revenue to 680 million yuan since its release on May 1.
It was followed by the action crime thriller "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In," which garnered box office sales of 14.35 million yuan on Saturday.
American sci-fi "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" replaced domestic crime film "Three Old Boys," securing third place with daily earnings of 8.81 million yuan.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland stood at 86.34 million yuan on Saturday.
