A commissioning ceremony for the new building of the National Library of Mongolia was held in Ulan Bator on Monday.

After 73 years, the National Library of Mongolia has moved into the new building for the first time, according to the library.

Situated in Ulan Bator's Sukhbaatar District, the new library building boasts 11 floors and spans 9,948.2 square meters. Housing a collection of 534,000 books and publications, it can serve up to 530 readers simultaneously.

The unveiling of the new library building, built to international standards, is heralding numerous opportunities including expanded cultural access, enhanced public understanding of science and cognitive knowledge, heightened interest in literature, and fostering constructive leisure activities for children and youth, the country's Ministry of Culture said in a statement.

With a population of 3.5 million, the Asian country persists in implementing numerous measures to foster a reading culture among its citizens. Notably, it hosts the National Book Festival twice a year nationwide -- one in spring and the other in autumn.
