Espace Louis Vuitton Beijing is hosting an exhibition Malerei, dedicated to German artist Albert Oehlen.

Running through to Oct 27, this exclusive showcase features six remarkable pieces carefully curated by Louis Vuitton, including some never-before-seen works that are sure to mesmerize art enthusiasts.

Oehlen, a leading figure in contemporary art, was born in Krefeld, Germany, in 1954 and currently divides his time between Bühler, Switzerland, and Segovia, Spain. His artistic journey began at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg, Germany, where he honed his craft before immersing himself in the vibrant punk scene of 1970s Berlin. This era of rebellious creativity left an indelible mark on Oehlen, shaping his distinctive style and approach to art.

Embracing the spirit of the "Wild New" movement in the 1980s, Oehlen challenged the conventions of traditional painting, aligning himself with a group of avant-garde artists from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. His work, characterized by a bold Neo-Expressionist aesthetic, defied norms and pushed boundaries, earning him acclaim and recognition on the global art stage.

Oehlen's influence extends far and wide, with his pieces housed in prestigious collections such as the Centre Pompidou and Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the Daimler Contemporary in Berlin, the MoMA in New York, and the Tate Modern in London. His innovative approach to art continues to captivate audiences worldwide, transcending borders and resonating with art aficionados of all backgrounds.

As part of the Foundation Louis Vuitton's "Hors-les-murs" program, which showcases the collection's treasures at various Espaces Louis Vuitton around the globe, this exhibition in Beijing represents a celebration of artistic diversity and international collaboration. Through this immersive experience, the foundation aims to bring Oehlen's visionary creations to a wider audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for his groundbreaking work and the power of art to inspire and provoke thought.
