Shigatse-born artist Trinley Dechen's current exhibition in Beijing provides a retrospective of his personal journey of self-exploration spanning the last decade. Hailing from the Xizang autonomous region, Dechen's artistic evolution reflects a departure from traditional brushwork techniques as he sought to find his unique voice in the realm of painting.

Growing up with a penchant for art, particularly the figurative style prevalent in thangka paintings and Tibetan murals, Dechen's exposure to diverse artistic styles during his time at an art college in Lhasa steered him toward embracing a more abstract approach.

Displayed at the Ici Labas gallery, his artworks offer a window into his metamorphosis: vibrant colors, depictions of plateau landscapes, Tibetan architectural motifs, and scenes of prayer rituals all serve as poignant reflections of his cultural heritage and upbringing.

Through his art, viewers can discern his struggle to carve out a distinctive artistic identity, adding layers of complexity and depth to his creations. Dechen invites audiences to join him on his introspective journey of artistic exploration, sharing his revelations and ongoing quest for artistic authenticity.
