These cities encompass a diverse range of regions, including Zigong in Sichuan province, Weihai in Shandong province, Xinzhou in Shanxi province, Yichang in Hubei province, Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture in Yunnan province, and Qinhuangdao in Hebei province.

The selection of these cities was conducted by the Liaowang Institute, affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency, in collaboration with the Institute for Contemporary China Studies at Tsinghua University.

Focusing on 199 cities in China with populations ranging from 1 million to 5 million, the report assesses their cultural and tourism potential through comprehensive data collection, surveys, and on-site research.

According to the report, cities in China with medium-sized populations and unique regional cultural attributes demonstrate promising trajectories for cultural and tourism development, showcasing robust growth opportunities.

As per the report, these cities have formulated strategic blueprints to evolve into cultural and tourism hubs, emphasizing the significance of cultural diversity and actively fostering the fusion of culture and tourism. They have implemented a variety of frameworks and protective measures, consistently innovating cultural and tourism offerings while introducing a diverse array of products and services, as outlined in the report.
