Marvel Studios' superhero film "Deadpool & Wolverine" continued its reign atop the North American box office this weekend with an estimated 15.2 million U.S. dollars, figures from the measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.

The R-rated action comedy, based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Deadpool and Wolverine, is expected to take in 599.5 million dollars in ticket sales through Sunday and surpass the 600-million-dollar benchmark in North America on Monday. It will be one of 16 films ever to do so.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" topped the North American box office charts for five of the past six weeks, only briefly dethroned by the science fiction horror film "Alien: Romulus" for a week.

The Marvel film has also grossed 658.4 million dollars overseas for a whopping global cume of 1.258 billion dollars through Sunday.

Taking the second place once again, Disney and 20th Century's "Alien: Romulus" earned 9.3 million dollars on its third weekend for a North American cume of 88.8 million dollars.

Rounding out the top three, Sony's romantic drama "It Ends With Us" notched 7.4 million dollars on its fourth weekend for a North American total of 133.7 million dollars.
