The Inaugural Tsinghua Alumni London Art Exhibition opened on Monday in the United Kingdom capital.

Titled Ubiquitous Technology: The Science of Aesthetics, the exhibition was jointly hosted by the UK Tsinghua Alumni association and Zhang Zetian, director of JD.Com's charity foundation, who is an alumnus of Tsinghua University in Beijing.

"I was inspired to support this exhibition to help emerging Asian artists, especially Chinese artists, to shine in the international art scene," said Zhang, producer of the exhibition. "Young Chinese artists bring us a fresh and exciting point of view of avant-garde aesthetics and unrestricted imagination."

Nearly 50 works from 30 artists were on display, with more than half of the artists from Tsinghua University.

According to organizers, several hundred artists applied to participate in the exhibition.

Traditional arts and crafts, digital media, interactive installations and 3D printing technology were used, reflecting the artists' ideas around art, nature, and technology.

Rather than emphasizing the individual practices, the exhibition focuses on the dynamic play of ideas and themes that unite the artists, according to the introduction of the exhibition, which ends on Nov 18.

"Artists explore how technology opens new dimensions for creative expression, and how art, in turn, invites the viewer to question people's relationship with technology and the natural world," it said.
