Beijing's Chaoyang district is set to become the first area in the capital to officially launch street performers' licenses to further improve the cultural and artistic atmosphere in the city.
A total of 42 street performers, comprising 19 bands, were recently selected by professional judges to receive official performance certificates. They will start performing on New Year's Day 2025.
"These street performers, while possessing artistic talent and creativity akin to artists on grand stages, also bring a unique closeness to everyday life," said a local resident Li Liang, a music enthusiast who loves traveling. "I believe their performances will have much interaction with the audience, which is cool."
"In many European countries, street performers are very popular and attract a lot of attention. I'm thrilled to see that Chaoyang will also have its own street performers, offering relaxing and enjoyable performances in the future."
Beginning on Jan 1, these certified street performers will start their performances in various locations such as streets and parks in Chaoyang. They will participate in scheduled performances at designated times and places, creating new and dynamic artistic scenes around the district.
According to the district government, street performer activities are expected to expand to more commercial areas, cultural squares and arts centers, effectively turning the city into a vast stage in the future. By then, residents and tourists will be able to enjoy the soothing sounds of violins, melodious pop songs and classic operas while strolling through the city.
