On Jan1, the "Classical and Glory - Ancient Greek and Roman Sculpture Art Exhibition" kicked off its first stop in China at the Shanxi Museum in Taiyuan. The exhibition showcased a total of 134 pieces of art from ancient Greece to ancient Rome.

Spanning centuries from ancient Greece to ancient Rome, the exhibits included exquisite artifacts such as statues of the Greek god Zeus, the Ammon Zeus headstone, and the Punishment of Prometheus sarcophagus, fully demonstrating the brilliant achievements of Western civilization to Chinese audiences.

Zhang Huiguo, deputy director of the Shanxi Museum, stated that this exhibition was a large-scale original overseas exhibition introduced by the Shanxi Museum in recent years, featuring high-quality exhibits. Through the comprehensive display of Western culture from gods to humans, from daily life to death, the exhibition aimed to promote closer cultural exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilizations, providing the Shanxi audience with a cultural feast.

Zhang further expressed, "This exhibition is not only a visual feast but also an opportunity to deeply understand ancient Greek and Roman culture."

Local 25-year-old visitor Wang Yongqiang from Taiyuan had visited the exhibition for the third time, stating, "I applied to see the exhibition when it was previewed. What we see here is not just a symbol of ancient Greek civilization but also the crystallization of human art and wisdom."

"Shanxi is mainly characterized by wooden ancient architecture, while ancient Greek architecture focuses on stone carving. Here, one can appreciate the different artistic charms of Chinese and Western civilizations," Wang added.

As the largest public cultural institution in Shanxi province for the collection, preservation, protection, research, and exhibition of cultural relics, the Shanxi Museum owns more than 500,000 items. The "Classical and Glory - Ancient Greek and Roman Sculpture Art Exhibition" was co-hosted by the Shanxi Museum and the National Museums Liverpool in the UK, running from Jan1 to May.
