An international tourism resort opened on Monday in the ancient Chikan town of Jiangmen, Guangdong province, helping promote cultural preservation and inheritance in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Opening the international resort was a specific measure in creating rural cultural spaces and a beneficial exploration in promoting the integrated development of agriculture, culture and tourism, according to Chen Xiaojian, deputy publicity chief of the provincial Party committee of Guangdong.
"As a key construction project and an important platform for promoting cultural exchange and cooperation among overseas Chinese, the Chikan tourism resort has become a practice in promoting cultural preservation and inheritance in Guangdong," said Chen.
Since its trial operation in January 2023, the Chikan Overseas Chinese Ancient Town has experienced rapid growth in popularity, receiving over 6 million visitors.
Visitors to the town can admire the picturesque scenery of over 600 well-preserved arcade buildings spanning more than 3 kilometers and the antique overseas Chinese architectural charm. They can also experience interactive and immersive cultural performances that are rich in overseas Chinese elements.
