The Ministry of Education approved the undergraduate major of translation in 2006. The State Council launched a pilot program for a Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) degree in 2007, which serves as the milestone for talent cultivation and discipline construction in translation. In order to develop professional education in translating and interpreting, the TCA and the MTI steering committee cooperated to jointly train China's new generation of translators and interpreters, which has become a model for translation education.
