Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) includes partial and full scholarships which are both provided by the Ministry of Education of China who entrusts the Chinese Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred as CSC) to enroll the manage CGS international students.

International students hoping to come to study at BLCU on CGS may apply for the scholarship at your country’s international students sending department or the Chinese embassy (or general consulate) in your country. Normally the time for application is from January to April.

As requested by the Ministry of Education of China and CSC, BLCU shall conduct strict management over CGS students. Those students who violate laws/regulations or university’s rules/provisions, behave badly, do not attend class as required shall, on the request of CSC, be cancelled the scholarship or expelled from BLCU depending on the seriousness of the case.

1. Annual Reconfirmation of CGS: (1). According to the regulations of the China Scholarship Council (CSC), those who study in China for more than one year and enjoy CSC scholarship are subject to annual reconfirmation of the scholarship. The reconfirmation includes your study attitude, study results, attendance, performance and behavior, and awards and punishments you have received.

(2). If you pass the reconfirmation, you can continue to enjoy the scholarship for the next academic year; otherwise your scholarship will be suspended for one year or cancelled.

(3). Those who fail to pass the reconfirmation may apply for the scholarship for the following year, and if you are qualified, you can enjoy it with the approval of CSC.

(4). All students who wish to extend their scholarship should finish the procedures of annual reconfirmation of the scholarship.

(5). Scholarship students who wish to continue their study in China by self-supporting should find a guarantor working in China.

(6). Undergraduates with excellent results may pursue a Master’s degree at BLCU without sitting for examinations. Such students may apply for the scholarship specially prepared for excellent students.

(7). Annual reconfirmation of scholarship takes place in late April. Please refer to further notice for detailed information.

2. Provisions of Major switch, transference and extension of study for CGS students(1). Generally, CGS students are not permitted to switch their major, transfer to other school or extend their study.

(2). In special cases where students need major switch, transference or extension of study, the student concerned must ask his country’s international students sending department to apply to the CSC for approval.

(3). For those who switch their major, transfer to other schools or extend their study without CSC’s approval, their scholarship shall be cancelled. If you want to extend your scholarship, you should personally apply to the embassy directly with a written application and a letter of recommendation from your teacher. After receiving your personal application, the letter of recommendation and the approval from the embassy, BLCU will notify the embassy of its approval. According to CSC, the embassy, after receiving the approval of the school, is to apply to CSC before the end of May every year.

3. About CGS preparatory studentsCGS preparatory students usually studies for one year in BLCU. Those who pass the exams /evaluations and the annual scholarship reconfirmation will be conferred a Certificate for Preparatory Study with which they can promote to undergraduate program in prospective institutions. For those who fail the exams /evaluations or the annual scholarship reconfirmation, their scholarship shall be cancelled.

4. Application of Scholarship for Outstanding International Student Scholarship for Outstanding International Student is a full scholarship initiated by the Ministry of Education of China to fund Master and PhD candidates studying in China and outstanding graduates enrolled for a higher academic degree in Chinese universities. CSC is in charge of the scholarship application, evaluation and management.

Master and PhD candidates who are studying in BLCU and outstanding BLCU graduates enrolled for a higher academic degree by BLCU may apply for Scholarship for Outstanding International Student. In May every year, the International Students Department collects applicant’s materials and hand in them to CSC for evaluation.

As required by the Ministry of Education, BLCU shall conduct annual reconfirmation upon the scholarship grantees to decide whether to provide the scholarship in the next year. The annual reconfirmation time normally fall in late April. Please refer to further notice for detailed information.
