The Beijing Municipal Commerce Commission approved Amazon (China)'s request to establish a regional headquarters office in Beijing. Amazon is the 127th international company to open a regional headquarters office in Beijing.

In 2012, Amazon Group, one of the world's top 500 enterprises, invested US$290 million to establish Amazon (China) investment Co., Ltd. Amazon holds equity and manages many Amazon Group subsidiaries in China. By the end of 2012, 278 of the world's top 500 enterprises made investments in Beijing.

At present, Beijing follows a "three big and five small" economic development zone platform. The number of enterprises in the 8 areas special economic areas account for 85 percent of Beijing's total enterprises.

The three big zones include Beijing CBD, Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park and Beijing Financial Street. The five smaller zones include the Airport Economic Zone, Fengtai Headquarters Base, East Second Ring Business District, Beijing Technological Development Zone and Wangjing Technology and Business District.
