BAIC Group sold 1.7m vehicles in 2012
Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group) sold a total of 1.7 million vehicles in 2012, up 10.3 percent year-on-year despite a slowing economy and stagnant market sales growth of only 4.3 percent.
BAIC, China's fifth-biggest carmaker by sales, raked in 210 billion yuan (US$33.3 billion) in revenue and 17 billion yuan (US$2.7 billion) in profits. Its overall operation status pushed it into the 4th spot in China's auto industry, trailing Shanghai-based SAIC, Dongfeng Motor Corp. and FAW Group. BAIC announced that it will endeavor to ship more than 2 million units in 2013 and achieve 245 billion yuan (US$38.9 billion) in revenue. BAIC sold 1.05 million passenger vehicles in 2012, up 21.5 percent from last year, which is 15.7 percentage points above the national average. Its subsidiary- Beijing Hyundai- alone delivered 860,000 vehicles in 2012, becoming the fourth largest whole-vehicle producer in the country. Beijing Benz, a joint venture founded by BAIC and Daimler AG, reported sales of 103,400 vehicles in 2012, up 29 percent. Xu Heyi, president of BAIC, said that the group's annual output capacity now exceeds 2.7 million. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) expects that the country's auto sales will reach 20.65 million units in 2013, up by 7 percent year-on-year.
