Beijing's free Wi-Fi service has been extended to cover some bus routes, including buses No. 52 and No. 99, which run around Chang'an Avenue, Beijing Youth Daily reported Tuesday.

Commuters on the routes can obtain their Internet access after inputting their cell phone number, and then receive a user name and password sent back in a text message. The service,  a pilot project undertaken by China Mobile, allows subscribers of the mobile phone network 20 hours of free Wi-Fi every month. Additional hours will be charged at  3 yuan (50 cents) per hour.

The free service is available until the end of June, but it's unclear whether China Mobile plans to extend it.

Beijing has launched free Wi-Fi services in several areas, including Xidan, Wangfujing, the Olympic Center, three major train stations, the Financial Street, Yansha and Zhongguancun.
