Peking and Tsinghua top university rankings
When deciding which university to apply to, it can be tricky to find out which institution is the best option for a particular subject. The 2012 rankings of Chinese universities by subject were released by the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) on Jan. 29, 2013. Three of China’s top universities -- Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China -- ranked No.1 in 39 disciplines among 95 first level-disciplines -- accounting for 40 percent of the overall total. The 95 first level-disciplines were divided into seven categories: Humanities and social sciences, physical, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and arts. The 1st place numbers of Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China are respectively 16, 14 and 9. According to the list, the advantages of Peking University lie in humanities and social sciences, physics and medicine. Tsinghua University took the lead in the field of engineering. Renmin University of China claimed five champions in the humanities and social sciences category. The evaluation was carried out over the course of one full year and covered 4,235 disciplines across 391 Chinese universities and institutions. Objective indicators and subjective opinions were both included, based on the public data released by government sectors and social institutions, as well as the participants' application materials. The opinions of professionals, government officials and other people from various business circles were also taken into consideration. |
