Visitors to Beijing have enjoyed the toll-free expressway policy during the golden week of the Spring Festival holiday. The city received a total number of 8.68 million visitors, 7.5 percent higher than that in the same period of last year.

Beijing’s tourism income over the week reached 3.88 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.7 percent, according to the statistics from the Beijing Travel Committee.

Most expressways in the country were going toll-free for passenger cars with fewer than seven seats during the holiday period. It was a great contributor to the increasing number of visitors from other places across China, with the total number reaching 1.1 million, up 18.3 percent from last year.

Beijing’s historical and cultural attractions were tourists’ favorites, especially the Palace Museum, Badaling Great Wall, Water Pass Great Wall and Mutianyu Great Wall.

As a social gathering to celebrate the arrival of spring, the Beijing temple fairs are also a part of the Chinese Lunar New Year festivities. The Temple of the Earth is known as the site of Beijing's busiest and biggest temple fairs, welcoming 1.02 million visitors last week. The Longtan Temple Fair and Yuanmingyuan Temple Fair also saw large crowds of people passing through.
