Farmlands are only good for agricultural production? Wrong. The colorful farmlands are perfect for sightseeing.

The rape fields in Fangshan District, the sunflower sea in Yanqing District and the profusion of flowers in Miyun District… These beautiful farmland scenes in Beijing’s suburban areas can earn local farmers over 100 million yuan (US$160,487.88) a year.

Statistics showed that the 54 farmland tourist spots around Beijing welcomed some 4.11 million visitors last year, with the total revenue standing at 100.22 million yuan (US$160,840.96).

Why are these farmlands so attractive? They are full of creativity. According to an employee from the city’s agro-technical promotion station, taking the potato sightseeing park in Yanqing District as an example, the tourists are struck by the naturally colorful beauty of the 113 kinds of potatoes, 75 kinds of flowers, 69 kinds of vegetable and 68 kinds of grains. They were well designed to form striking visual effects.
