Easy access to garden expo site

The 9th China (Beijing) International Garden Expo is going to be opened in May. Li Chaogang, an NPC deputy and secretary of the Party Committee for Fengtai District, said three main city roads will pass the expo site.

Li Chaogang, an NPC deputy and secretary of the Party Committee for Fengtai District, said three main city roads will pass the expo site. These three roads will include Beijing to Zhou Koudian highway, Beigong Road and the western extension of Meishikou Road. Subway Line 14 will go also make a stop at the expo.

"We have transformed the landfill site into a beautiful garden. Covering an area of 513 hectares, the expo has 4 million trees and 59 cities in China will participate. In addition, 34 cities from 25 foreign countries will participate," Li said.

The expo will run from May 18 to November 18. "According to the environmental protection department, the expo will absorb 100,000 tons of pollution a year."

Fengtai will invest 8 billion yuan (US$1.29 billion) on environment protection programs. It will eliminate 21,000 old vehicles, complete a 8000 mu (533 hectares) forestation project and strengthen control on PM2.5.
