Daxing is set to create leisure venues for 100,000 residents across Yinghai, Panggezhuang, Beizangcun and Caiyu towns, covering a total area of some six thousand square meters.

"Residents will have their spaces to dance and do fitness," Ma Xianying, vice-director of the Daxing District Culture Committee, explained.

The permanent population of Daxing increased at an average annual growth of 9.1 percent from 2006 to 2010. The number of people who stay in the area for more than six months increased by 20.8 percent annually. By the end of 2010, the permanent population number reached 1.37 million. "The existing public cultural facilities are a far cry from the people's needs," a responsible person with the Daxing government said.

Last year, Daxing developed dozens of underground leisure venues, the largest one of which takes up 1,600 square meters and meets the needs of five communities. "That number can reach up to 20 this year."
