Shichahai, a famous historical scenic area located in Beijing's Xicheng District, kicked off a series of activities for Beijingers and tourists alike to experience the capital city's authentic traditional culture and customs on April 18.

The cultural activities, to be conducted throughout the year, are divided into with eight themes, including a taste of humanistic culture, historical features, creative industries, modern life and local food in this renowned area and Fujing Street.

People will be invited to visit time-honored enterprises, princes' mansions or former celebrity residences, stroll through the hutongs or special commercial streets or participate in the variously themed activities held at different courtyard hotels.

Dozens of time-honored brands in Shichahai are ready to offer visitors the best opportunities to taste the local snacks and gourmet food.

Shichahai, the only open water landscape in the ancient capital, consists of Qianhai (Front Lake), Houhai (Rear Lake) and Xihai (West Lake). Aside from its ancient temples and historic sites, the area also features various hutongs, restaurants, clubs, cafes and boutiques.
