Beijing Fashion Week opens
As residents of the capital break out their winter wardrobes, Beijing Fashion Week is bringing trends for next spring and summer. Over the next nine days, nearly 50 shows as well as competitions, exhibitions and award ceremonies will be held.
China's luxury fashion brand NE Tiger opens Beijing Fashion Week with a collection themed on herdsmen culture. The line draws on influences such as blue and white porcelain, ancient opera, and totems... but gives them a contemporary spin. Another show gracing the opening is designer Wang Yutao's latest collection. Inspired by tea culture, the collection features a palette of all shades of green and brown, as well as purple. Tea pot patterns are printed on waistcoats, pants, skirts and T-shirts. "It's great! Tea is at the heart of Chinese culture, while the designs and cuts are up to date. Both the colors and the designs are superior, catering to the elite, but are not short of energy. It think this is just as good as big foreign brands."
Most of the shows over the next nine days have been prepared by China-born designers. Chinese brands are increasingly gaining attention from the world's fashion circle. For example, "Exception", a brand from Guangzhou, has gained favor with France's Printemps and Lafayette department store. On the path from imitation to creativity, it's clear that Chinese brands are making a place for themselves on the world market. From January to September this year, the country's exports of textiles and clothing reached 209.5 billion US dollars, up by 11 percent from last year. |
