China Central Television (CCTV) Headquarters in Beijing was named the overall winner of the "Best Tall Building Worldwide" by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) during its 12th Annual Awards Ceremony and Dinner in Chicago on Nov. 7, 2013.

The 234 m (768 ft), 44-storey skyscraper in Beijing's Central Business District (CBD), was deemed the best of this year's four regional winners due to its "unusual take on skyscraper typology."

The jury stated: "Instead of competing in the race for ultimate height and style through a traditional two-dimensional tower soaring skyward, CCTV's loop poses a truly three-dimensional experience, culminating in a 75-meter cantilever."

The skyscraper was designed by the Rotterdam-based Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), a leading architecture firm in the world. Construction of the building lasted for eight years, from 2004 to 2012. It's currently the 346th tallest in the world.

The four regional winners 2013 include The Bow in Calgary, Canada (Americas); CCTV in Beijing, China (Asia and Australia); The Shard in London, United Kingdom (Europe); Sowwah Square in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (Middle East and Africa).
