The Double Eighth Government-subsidized Cultural Consumption Day was celebrated on August 8 in Beijing, aiming to boost cultural consumption in the capital city.

The online and offline event, hosted by Beijing's State-Owned Cultural Assets Supervision & Administration Office, highlighted a great number of low-price exhibitions and promotional activities. Over 3.4 million free tickets and coupons to various cultural activities were handed out to residents.

During the government-subsidized culture consumption season in 2013 and 2014, a total of 64 million people spent 15.4 billion yuan on various cultural activities, including cultural performances, film screenings, seasonal readings, animated game carnivals, antiques auctions, creative design exhibitions, publishing trade events and folk handicraft exhibitions.

More than 1.92 million "Beijing Culture Easy" cards have been handed out to citizens since September 2013.
