Ai Jun is a 78-year-old retired teacher in Beiguan East Road Community on Gongchen Street. He lives by the principle of achieving happiness through helping others.

Ai is considered a trustworthy man in the community. Once, his neighbor Zhang Zhenhai, an empty-nester, even asked him to deposit 120,000 yuan in the bank on his behalf.

Ai also uses his own money for the public good. He bought cement at his own expense to repair a set of stairs in his community which had become uneven after years of disrepair. He also buys bulbs to light the community’s public staircases and has taken on the responsibility of replacing them when they are broken.

Whenever he encounters children who are unable to enter their own homes because they don’t have their keys, he takes them to his own home and treats them with food and drink. He also helps them with their homework.

He frequently offers to lend his own house to community residents who are in need of extra space while hosting marriages or funerals.

Under his influence, the whole community has become like a family in which everyone is willing to lend a helping hand to others in need. Ai, like a messenger of harmony, spreads the positive energy of helping others through his own loving deeds.
