Airbus' commercial aircraft deliveries reached a record-high of 688 in 2016, the fourteenth annual increase, confirmed Airbus China on Thursday.

According to Airbus China, 82 customers around the world received aircraft.

The Airbus 2016 commercial aircraft deliveries included 545 single aisle A320 Family. More than 40 percent of single aisle deliveries were of the larger A321 models.

Airbus received 731 orders from 51 customers worldwide last year, including 607 orders for single aisle aircraft.

At the end of 2016, Airbus' overall backlog stood at 6,874 aircraft valued at US$1 trillion at list prices. In 2016, Airbus delivered its 10,000th aircraft.

"Airbus is boosting deliveries, harnessing digital advantages and extending our service portfolio globally," said Fabrice Bregier, Airbus CEO.

On March 2, 2016, construction of the Airbus China A330 completion and delivery center started in Tianjin, where A330 aircraft will be finished off and delivered to Chinese clients. It is the company's first completion and delivery center for wide-body aircraft outside Europe.
