Zhuhai

The Zhuhai Environment Protection Bureau and Zhuhai Development and Reform Bureau have issued tougher environment protection policies, aiming to promote industry transformation.

Prohibitions on high-energy consumption and pollution are highlights in the policies. Specifically, Zhuhai will not allow new industry projects in 12 fields, including oil refinery, ironmaking and steelmaking, cement, glass, coke, non-ferrous metal smelting, papermaking, lead-acid battery, electroplating, spinning, leatherworking and fermentation. The prohibitions will be imposed based on the de-facto development level of different regions in Zhuhai.

Another highlight is that the policies clearly clarify specific indicators for controlling pollutants and new standards regarding pollutant emission. Inhalable particles and volatile organic compounds will be included in the list of pollutants.
