More than 350 executives, scholars and officials gathered in Hohhot, capital of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, for academic exchange and discussion on how to utilize and develop Mongolian medicine at the second International Mongolian Medicine Innovation and Development High-Level Forum on Sept. 26, 2017.

With the theme "Innovation and Developments in Mongolian Medicine," the forum is one of the major events during the second China-Mongolia Expo, which opened on Tuesday and will last until Saturday.

Liu Xinle, vice-chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region delivered a keynote speech at the session. "As a treasure of Mongolian culture, Mongolian medicine actively deepens cooperation between Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Mongolia from economic, cultural and health perspectives during the process of promoting Belt and Road Initiative inspired construction."

"To contribute to the flourishing friendship between China and Mongolia we must make the most of this platform for bilateral cooperation and exchange, increase our cooperation, and jointly promote vibrant developments in the field of Mongolian medicine," Liu emphasized.

"Different from western medicine's therapy, Mongolian medicine focuses on improving the physiological environment," Gonabilig, director of Mental and Physical Medical Center of Inner Mongolia International Mongolian Hospital explained the characteristics of the traditional Mongolian medicine with a metaphor, "If there are flies in a room, western medicine is the insecticide which directly kills the flies but doesn't alter the environment to stop more flies from breeding. Mongolian medicine is like an environment purifier, altering the environment so that the flies no longer have a suitable breeding ground."

When talking about internationalizing Mongolian medicine, Agula, a famous Chinese doctor who practices Mongolian medicine, points out that we should first enhance our core competitiveness to strengthen disciplinary research and medical training, take full advantage of modern medical treatment whilst preserving the national features of Mongolian medicine.

Before the opening of this forum, Mongolian delegates were invited to visit the Inner Mongolia International Mongolian Hospital to experience China's Mongolian medicine therapy.

"Mongolian medicine is a kind of naturopathy without any side effects and its treatment is effective," said a patient, when talking about why he chose Mongolian medicine.

This forum lasted for one and half days and those who have produced dissertations in Mongolian medicine were rewarded.
