'The true and modern Lhasa': 40 years of reform and opening up

An event themed "Live a Happy Life in Lhasa" was held in Lhasa on June 20, organized by the Lhasa Publicity Department. Xiao Zhigang, secretary of the CPC Lhasa Municipal Committee, spoke at the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Xiao said that Lhasa has witnessed groundbreaking changes since the launch of China's reform and opening up, especially since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, under the firm leadership of the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, as well as with the strong help of the Tibet Autonomous Region government.
"We hope to show the world the true and modern Lhasa, where people live a happy life," Xiao commented.
Statistics offered by the local publicity department showed that, Lhasa's economy is growing steadily and quickly. The gross regional product (GRP) of Lhasa rocketed to about 47.93 billion yuan in 2017. Tourism in the region has developed rapidly, with 2017 seeing 16.07 million visitors to Lhasa from home and abroad.
The event aimed to focus on such topics as poverty eradication, grassroots party construction, cultural tourism, rural vitalization, the healthcare industry and economic development in industrial parks in Lhasa.
Zhang Bifang, vice director of the Lhasa Publicity Department, hosted the launch ceremony.
