New energy technology company BYD and Asian engineering giant ST Engineering have announced release of their jointly-developed driverless pure electric forklift in Singapore.
The forklift is also known as a universal loader, suitable for docks, airports, warehouses and other industrial uses through its cutting-edge technology in lifting and transporting machinery.
It contains such unique features as target guidance, route selection, access control identification, obstacle avoidance, loading and unloading operations, as well as achieving a high degree of automation and intelligence.
In a related development, BYD and ST Engineering signed a cooperation agreement at the Singapore Industrial Fair on Oct. 16 that will involve them in producing an even broader range of autonomous forklifts.
The world's major developed countries regard artificial intelligence as a crucial development path, and Shenzhen-based BYD is investing heavily to advance the technology in its 7+4 Full Market EV Strategy, a vision to provide a comprehensive suite of new energy vehicles for private, public and industrial use.
In the automotive industry alone, BMW, Volkswagen, General Motors, Toyota, Nissan, Renault and Kia have chosen BYD electric forklifts for their warehouse operations. In addition, Chinese online retail giant JD.com, Inc. is purchasing thousands of BYD pure electric forklifts to cut emissions in its logistics and storage system.
