Hello Mart, a market located near Beijing Central Business District, celebrated its first anniversary last Saturday. Under the theme "Return of Scarborough Fair," a festive celebration was held to echo the classic fair in England that dates back more than 1,000 years.
The market adopted a new look for the anniversary. Vendors lined up under awnings and wooden shelters lavishly decorated with flowers. Shoppers could browse around the market while appreciating the aroma of rosemary and sage and listening to the celestial voice of Sarah Brightman. Guests dressed up in vintage clothing styles and posed in front of leather trunks and canvas tents. It was as if time had turned back to the fair held at the small town in Yorkshire, England.
"Hello Mart offers a lifestyle, not just merchandise," said its founder Liu Xiangheng. "It presents a new shopping experience that feels entirely natural. We attract customers who want to enjoy a high-quality life. At this one-year anniversary, Hello Marthas taken on a fresh new look with these scenes from the Middle Ages, giving us a new and international flavor."
A "Fish Ceremony" was one of the highlights of the night. Fresh sashimi was prepared on the spot from a yellow fin tuna weighing nearly 50 kilograms, and every guest was then offered a taste of this gift from deep seas. The guests also shared a large birthday cake.
Hello Martis laid out across a 7,000-square-meter venue. It is a one-stop shopping center where you can find the city's premium food, drinks, fresh fruits and vegetables, and appreciate the latest culture, craftsmanship and entertainment.
It houses fresh produce, seafood and wines from all around the world. It also offers Beijing specialties for visitors and international travelers to bring home the authentic tastes of Beijing to their loved ones, including fine menswear, custom-made qipao dresses, handmade leather goods and pearl accessories. Artworks are on display, and high-end crafts and antiques are also available.
The original Scarborough Fair, held in Scarborough of Yorkshire, England, served as an important venue for trade in the late Middle Ages.
About 100 guests and customers were there to witness the moment when Hello Mart introduced the "Scarborough Fair" area in the compound.
