The section between Niri and Suxiong stations on the Chengdu-Kunming railway reopened Sunday after repairs following landslides caused by heavy rain.
The section of the key railway linking southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces was blocked by landslides on Aug. 30. It reopened at 11:52 a.m., 23 minutes before a freight train safely passed through it.
Local authorities deployed more than 1,000 workers and used 80 units of rescue equipment to remove mud and stones from the track, restore the subgrade, and set up more pipe culverts for draining water.
The railway company has identified the section as a key area in flood and disaster prevention and control and assigned staff to monitor it around the clock.
